“You cannot do an act of kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.”
Ruweda Mohamed, Executive DirectorDesire Youth Initiative (DYI) is a women and youth-led, non-profit community-based organization operating primarily in Kilifi County, with the flexibility to extend its impact. Established in 2020 and officially registered under the Department of Social Services in 2022, the organization was founded in response to the rising cases of violence against women and girls, largely driven by socio-economic challenges, cultural practices, and social norms. With a diverse membership spanning various ages, genders, cultures, and religious backgrounds, it is committed to serving the community by fostering active participation in building a more just and equitable society. To achieve this, the organization collaborates closely with relevant government ministries and key stakeholders to support its initiatives within defined operational frameworks. Through our work, we strive to improve the quality of life for marginalized communities and foster sustainable, positive change.
